Slagle Attends Promotional Products Show In Mexico
Issue: 2009mar
PPAI President and CEO Steve Slagle, CAE, traveled south of the border for the Expo Promotional Product Show, sponsored by the Asociación Mexicana de Profesionales de la Promoción (AMPPRO), February 18-20 at Mexico City’s World Trade Center.
The show proved to be a success despite the effects of the U.S. recession on Mexico’s economy. On February 18, Slagle delivered the keynote presentation titled, “How to Sell More Promotional Products in Times of a Recession.” The presentation drew heavily from PPAI members’ advice and recommendations in articles written for PPB and Promotional Consultant magazines in the past two months.
“While it was a small tradeshow with about 80 exhibiting companies, more than 4,000 visitors attended,” says Slagle. “Distributors invited their key end-buyer clients to attend, so the show was actually very busy with so many attendees.”
AMPPRO is the leading promotional products association in Mexico and has been representing the Mexican market for 15 years. Lic. Alejandro Pesel, current president of AMPPRO and owner of Danpex, a supplier company, opened the tradeshow by citing AMPPRO’s partnership with the World Trade Center in managing the show this year and the opportunities for working more closely with PPAI.
Slagle adds that PPAI will be working with AMPPRO more actively this year, as well as with the Promotional Product Professionals of Canada (PPPC), to encourage each association’s respective members to trade more often within North America.
“The current devaluation of the peso makes importing from Mexico a much greater value today,” he says. “I was very impressed by the quality and sophistication of the companies I visited and talked with during the AMPPRO Show.”
