Leed's Closing Ohio Manufacturing Facility

Issue: 2009mar

New Kensington, Pennsylvania-based supplier Leed's (UPIC: leeds) announced last week it will close its Warren, Ohio, facility on April 27, eliminating 81 positions there.

Leed’s began leasing the 256,000 square-foot facility in August 2006 to serve as an overflow warehouse and production facility for its headquarters, though David Nicholson, Leed's president, says the vast majority of the work has remained in New Kensington.

Current and forecasted order volumes, as impacted by the softening economy, make it no longer necessary to maintain two separate facilities, said Nicholson in a company news release. However, he adds, "we are continuing to focus on opportunities in the market."

Nicholson says the 60-day closure notice is meant to provide a smooth transition and allow employees to seek other employment opportunities. Leed’s will also reduce its non-production workforce in New Kensington by 44 positions to better match business needs.

“Leed’s has been, and continues to be, a very healthy company,” says Nicholson. “These organizational changes represent Leed’s continued focus on maintaining financial strength and stability in order to provide uninterrupted industry-leading products and services to distributors.”
