Community Involvement: Premiums Plus Executive Raises More Than $31,000 For Cancer Charity

Issue: 2009aug

Margie Price, MAS, owner and president of St. Louis, Missouri-based distributor Premiums Plus, Inc. (UPIC: PREMPLUS), recently completed a successful radio-thon for the local cancer awareness organization St. Louis Men’s Group Against Cancer, bringing in more than $31,000 in donations.

On July 31, Price and several volunteers from the group co-hosted the daylong radio call-in fundraiser with on-air personalities at Team 1380, KSLG, a local sports radio program. The volunteers and several people who have benefitted from the group’s efforts were interviewed on air, prompting calls from supportive listeners and evoking pledges of financial giving.

Price, who is the group’s executive director, has worked with St. Louis Men’s Group for more than 20 years to raise awareness and funding for cancer care and prevention. This was the first event of its kind for the group, which hosts a sports dinner every fall and a luncheon every spring to raise funds for its cause.

“With the economy being down, I think people’s needs are greater, and we are getting more requests (for assistance),” says Price. “But I think people are still giving. It’s the same with promotional products … if you have a good product or a good story, people will continue to spend.”

Price says though the fall dinner typically brings in more than what the radio-thon did, because of the connections made over the air with callers, “the residual effects are going to be greater.” She adds that St. Louis Men’s Group plans to repeat the radio-thon next year and raise even more.
