Industry News: Incentive Federation Launches Healthcare Incentives Campaign
Issue: 2009aug
The Incentive Federation has launched a national effort to show Congress that incentives can improve healthcare decisions and reduce spending while also enhancing overall health when used as part of wellness programs.
“Employees need compelling reasons and immediate tangible benefits to encourage them to participate in wellness programs,” says George Delta, IF executive director. “In fact, recent studies have shown that employee participation in wellness programs measurably increases and costs decrease when incentives are offered.”
The organization is launching a campaign encouraging all companies in the incentive industry to contact to their own representatives and senators to help them better understand the need for healthcare incentives as a way to improve healthcare.
The IF is also encouraging Congress to consider making such programs nontaxable to employees and deductible to employers, and is contacting key members of Congress to increase awareness of the benefits of incentives.
“The health reform package currently being considered provides an excellent opportunity to promote the use of incentives as a way to reduce costs and improve quality of life,” says Delta.
