Community Involvement: Bankers Advertising Wraps Up Summer Intern Partnership

Iowa City, Iowa-based distributor Bankers Advertising Co. (UPIC: BACADV) just finished hosting a summer internship program in partnership with the University of Iowa’s Henry B. Tippie School of management.
In May, Bankers President Don Beussink requested two interns from the university to assist with sales and marketing efforts for the summer. Jacob Bradley, a recent graduate of the Tippie School of Business and Nanda Kumar, a current business school student, were selected.
Under the direction of Beussink and Vice President of Sales Erica Kelley-Gogel, CAS, and with guidance from several others, Bradley and Kumar developed capabilities presentations to pitch to large corporate clients. The interns presented to more than 40 clients and prospects, and many of those presentations were conducted in partnership with Bankers sales reps.
“It’s like learning to swim. You can read as much as you want about selling, but you need to actually ‘get in the water’ to learn it,” says Kumar. He adds that he looks forward to returning to his native India with his MBA degree and a summer’s worth of sales experience under his belt.
The two also developed a series of presentations that serve as sales tools for Bankers Advertising Company’s sales partners, working to increase client and prospect knowledge of the Bankers name and capabilities.
“I have learned the value of a creative idea and a fresh perspective,” says Bradley. “The goal of advertising is to differentiate oneself from the clutter and strike a chord with your target audience.”
