In Memoriam: Lester K. Wright Sr., Co-Founder Of Vitronic, Inc.

Issue: 2009oct

Lester K. Wright, retired executive and co-founder of supplier Vitronic Inc., died September 3 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, at age 81. He was a resident of Doniphan, Missouri.

Born July 13, 1928, in St. Louis, at age 19 Wright and his family moved to Doniphan where he became plant manager for Wright Leather Specialty Co. In the early 1950s, Wright joined his brothers Charles, Jack, and Larry in forming Vitronic, Inc.

During Lester Wright’s long tenure as vice president of manufacturing, employment at the Doniphan plant exceeded 400 people. The company is now known as Mason, Ohio-based Vitronic Promotional Group (UPIC: ACHIEVER) though production remains at the Doniphan facility.

“While Charles Wright Sr. was the architect of Vitronic, Lester was special when it came to working with hundreds of employees. His employees thought the world of him,” says Denver M. Wright, vice president of St. Louis, Missouri-based distributor Denver Wright, Inc. (UPIC: DWRIGHT).

At the The PPAI Expo 2009, The PPAI Education Committee presented an award to the Wrights of Vitronic, Inc. for their “Gentlemen’s Roundup” networking and educational opportunity.

Lester Wright was involved in several community projects including the Ripley County Industrial Development Committee, Doniphan Chamber of Commerce, Current River Heritage Museum, National Canoe Race and Timberfest. He attended First Christian Church. He will also be remembered as a cattle farmer, avid hunter and outdoorsman.

Wright was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Denver Wright Sr., and his first wife, Lenore. He is survived by his second wife, Eva Jean Murray; one son, Bill R. Wright and his wife, Jeni, of Doniphan; one daughter, Leslen Sanders and her husband, Jeff, of Sunset Hills, Missouri; and five grandchildren.

A funeral service was held September 6 at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan.
