Industry News: Supplier’s Fortune Improves With Relocation, Expansion

Issue: 2009nov

Despite rumors to the contrary, supplier Good Fortunes Brands (UPIC: GOODFTN) is thriving in its new location in Palm Beach County, Florida.

Good Fortunes, whose customers take big bites out of its custom, giant gourmet fortune cookies, left its California headquarters after nearly 15 years.

“In California, businesses are being hit from all sides,” says Karen Belasco Staitman, Good Fortunes co-president. “I didn’t know where I wanted to relocate at first, but I got an amazing offer from Florida.”

In late September, Staitman and most of her staff picked up and headed to the Sunshine State. Since then, business has been great, she says. The move has allowed Good Fortunes to create jobs, bringing the staff total to 22 from 10. The relocation effort also included a facility expansion—the new space is 32,000 square feet—to accommodate production of existing lines and new products in time for the holiday season.

Staitman says though the economy has affected her business like many others in the industry, she is receiving more orders now than she did this time last year.

“We love our promotional products business,” she says.

"Congratulations to Good Fortunes & to the State of Florida. You'd think the people who live in California would wake up when good thriving small businesses leave their state for other pastures. California is beautiful but they sure think differently out there."
