Community Involvement: Artmetal President To Coach Special Olympic Team

Issue: 2010jan

Evan Krofchick, MAS, president of Toronto, Ontario-based supplier Artmetal Promotional Products (UPIC: ARTMETAL), has been selected as a Team Ontario Swim Coach for the 2010 Canadian National Special Olympic Games in London, Ontario.

This is Krofchick’s first time to coach at the national games; he previously coached at the 2008 Special Olympics Ontario Provincial Games. He has been volunteering for the North York Eels, a Toronto-based Special Olympic swim team, since 1995.

“The opportunity to coach on a national level is something that I am very proud of,” says Krofchick. “Special Olympics allows its athletes to perform at their best, whatever their best might be. It is a charity that is dear to me because one of my cousins has Down syndrome.”

Krofchick adds, “To see your athletes succeed from weekly practice to competing on a national level is very inspiring. The feeling you get when you see your athletes giving their best effort, whether in a race or in practice, is truly a humbling experience. Special Olympics is the only place where the person who comes in last can receive a bigger applause than the person who comes in first. If that is not the most amazing display of sportsmanship and humanity and something worth being part of, I do not know what is. It is the amazing humanity and display of the best in human spirit that inspires me to continue to contribute in this way.”

Special Olympic athletes compete on regional, provincial, state, national, and world levels. For more information about the Special Olympics or to donate, visit www.specialoympics.ca or www.osoinc.com.
