Specialty Incentives Purchases Assets Of L.W. Barrett
By: Staff Issue: 2010mar
Denver, Colorado-based distributor Specialty Incentives (UPIC: spclty) purchased selected assets of L.W. Barrett Company (UPIC: BARRETT), a Denver-based branded merchandise firm, as first reported in a PPB Newslink Breaking News Alert last week. The move represents Specialty Incentives' ongoing effort to expand its presence in the region.
Finances of the deal were not disclosed. Both companies are privately held. L.W. Barrett will dissolve, but all employees will transfer to Specialty Incentives.
Bob Davis, CEO of Specialty Incentives, says the deal includes the sales force of L.W. Barrett, which is approximately 35 people.
“We are excited to give an experienced sales force from a 57-year-old company the fuel Specialty Incentives will be able to provide them for added revenue through plentiful sales opportunities,” Davis told PPB in an exclusive interview.
L.W. Barrett’s sales associates serve customers throughout the Midwest, Rocky Mountains and West Coast.
“I’m looking for good things to come from this merger,” says Tina Montgomery, MAS, president at L.W. Barrett, who will join Specialty Incentives as an account manager. Montgomery is also on the PPAI Board of Directors. “We’ve talked for quite a while about the merger of our companies. They are a great group and I’ve respected them for years.”
Montgomery says being a smaller distributor has become more difficult with the economic downturn and expects to see more companies merging to allow for cost discounts and to take advantage of technical platforms.
Specialty Incentives is Colorado's largest distributor, providing full-service promotional marketing specializing in custom imprinted merchandise and corporate gifts. In addition to Denver, Specialty Incentives also has a sales office in Phoenix.
